CONSERVATION OF TREATED DRINKING WATER

             CONSERVATION OF DRINKING WATER
               INDUSTRIAL TOWNSHIPS

INTRODUCTION

The expansion of township is inevitable with the increase in population and passage of time. The mushroom growth leads to imbalanced civic amenities, like drinking water, sewage, & drains. Therefore every decade or so there is a need to upgrade the civic amenities to meet the growing population demands. Drinking water is the first basic need of a man. Normally additional facilities are added on to the old installations for paucity of funds and the situation managed somehow. This is a case of an Industrial township, where the management felt a need to look into the problems of drinking water supply.

OBJECTIVE
To assess the existing capacity on a zero base and redesign the age old systems on a modular basis, with latest technology for the next 20 years.

FINDINGS:

A)  STANDARD AMOUNT OF WATER NEEDED

A realistic approach was adopted to assess the actual needs of water for a family of four persons (Two adults and two children) as follows:

Bath
3 gallons/person
Clothes
3 gallons
Toilet
2 gallons
Cooking
2 gallons
Miscellaneous
2 gallons
Total
12 gallons/person
Total for 4 persons
12 x4=48 gallons/day
Wastages at 100%
48 gallons/day
Grand Total
96 gallons/day

This norm matches with the highest government norm for a family four -100 gallons/day, for an industrial township.

B)  ACTUAL QUANTITY OF WATER SUPPLIED

The rate of flow from a 15 mm diameter pipe line in a house of the family of four is 7 gallons per minute. The supply hours I day are as follows:

5 am - 7 am
120 minutes
    11 - 12..30 pm
90 minutes
6 pm - 8 pm
120 minutes
Total
330 minutes

Therefore total quantity of water supplied / day is 2400 gallons. This is exactly 24 times the amount of water needed It was a revealing observation leading to an obvious solution to contain the gross wastages.

C)  THEFT OF WATER

The crime rate in an industrial township is higher than other cities, because of higher purchasing power of the population. The villages and lower income group make illegal taping’s in the rising mains to fulfill their basic needs. The poor workmanship of these tapings leads to double wastages: continuous flow of water to the villages over the surface and undetected leakages at the tapings, below the surface.

D)  DILAPIDATED PIPELINES

The water towers and the pipelines delivering the drinking water are 70 years old. Moreover they have been over loaded to cater to the mushroom growth of the township over the decades.
Since this civic amenity is round the  year.  Shutdowns are postponed till a major crisis erupts. This attitude leads to leakages from errored pipes, old valves and joints. The quantity of leakages could well equal the consumption of water supply to the township.

E)   LEVEL DIFFERENTIALS LEADING TO POOR PRESSURE

This industrial township is undulating and slightly hilly. It has a mix of single storied houses built in 1910's and 1940's as well as multistoried buildings built in l980's and 1990's Therefore on any-one delivery line. The level differential could be as high as 12 meters. The management is supplying 2 hours of water to a multistoried building twice a day simply because the level differential reduces the pressure in delivery line and water keeps over flowing from single storied houses till the multistoried flats have had their fill.

F)    OVERFLOWS AT THE WATER TOWERS

The over flow for 120 min/day from a house-hold tap, 15 mm diameter pipe at the rate of 7gals/min. would work out to 2 lakh gallons per year. This will cost the corporation $200 per year only. But a normal over flow from a 600 mm diameter pipe at the main water towers at the rate of 2500 gallons per minute for a short period of 10 minutes per day would work out to 91 Lakh gallons per year costing $50,000 per year to the corporation.

G)        LEAKAGES AT THE WATER TOWERS

The age old delivery lines and their corresponding valves are worn-out heavily. But there is no time available to shut down the system and replace them, when the valves are fully closed. The water still leaks past the gaps up to 10 %. This minor 10 % is seemingly a small loss and can be overlooked, until quantified. So it was done to get the accurate picture. The 10 % loss from a 600 mm delivery pipe line at the rate of 4600 gallons/min works out to 460 gals/min. The total amount of water leaking past the worn-out valve is 5 lakh gallons/day which works out to cost of $11,00,000 per year.

H)         ORGANIZATIONAL SET UP AND REPORTING SYSTEM

The raw water treatment plant is managed by one executive agency whose targets are based on demands of the Industry and township put together. He operates independently with little interaction on the supply and consumption side.
The supply of treated water is looked after by another executive agency whose norms are customer satisfaction first at any cost.  Since whatever demands they make on the treatment plant are met regularly. The need for improvements and savings is not felt, so far. This organizational set up has it draw-backs, No one is held accountable for total costs of the system. For the fear of public reactions and uproar, the improvement plans/ideas are shelved in favour of status quo.

       RECOMMENDATIONS :

    1. It is proposed to reorganise the delivery pipeline network, with minor modifications to minimise the level differentials up to one meter only and reduce the supply hours in a tapering fashion – (New law of tapering demand by the author).
    2. It is proposed to close the head end valves at the water towers, on these delivery lines by 15 % every 10 minutes interval. This break-through will contain wastages of water up to 40 % without sacrificing the function of supplying water to the customers for a full supply of one hour duration.
    3. It is proposed to modernise the delivery pipe line system at the water towers on the common header system, having three distinct but interconnected segments; low pressure segment, medium pressure segment and high pressure segment. Standby valves on this common header will ensure regular maintenance without affecting the water supply activity, which will contain the leakages happening after the supply hours.
    4. It is also proposed to motorise the valve opening and closing operations at the water towers from a central control room to optimise the manpower deployment.

    5. It is recommended to interconnect the overflows of the three storage tanks at the water towers. The overflow of 'A' would act as inlet to 'B' and the overflow of 'B' would be the inlet to 'C'. This will mean that we continue to fill up tank 'A' only at all times and stop this process when 'C' overflows. This will eliminate the individual operations and individual overflows from the storage tanks, which is substantial.
    6. It is recommended to install bore wells in villages and low income group housing to obviate the theft of water and the consequential losses arising out of illegal tapings. It has been found to be very economical to provide a bore well in the long run.

           CONCLUSION:

On completion of these proposals the expected savings / benefits would work out to around $2,000,000/year recurring. The investment level is around $800,000. The ROI is very lucrative. Figures are based on the year of study 1990-91.

DOCTORS & MEDICINE ARE MERCHANDISE FOR PROFIT

DOSTORS & MEDICINE ARE MERCHANDISE FOR PROFIT

Our gullible society is always obsessed with their health. In the 1700 many smart pharmacists thrived on this need of the people. In the past people, eminent and others often suffered from poor digestion. Sanitation practices were hit and miss even in the best kitchens. Fresh fruits and vegetables were unavailable in the off seasons. Well off people could eat vegetables preserved in salt and sugar, poor people did without. As for stress, work hours were long and usually physical. A typical workday was 12 hours and the work week was 6 days with only day of rest being Sunday.
Many concoctions and pills were originally created as medicines.

In 1767 an English clergyman invented carbonated water and marketed it as man-made natural mineral water. He falsely claimed that it was beneficial to drink for one’s health, and you can now see through his gimmick.

In 1791 Johann Jacob Schweppes, a German watchmaker turned soft drink entrepreneur, began mixing carbonated water laced with quinine. This tonic water when mixed with Gin became a very popular drink throughout the British Empire. It helped solve the Malaria problem unknowingly.

In 1870 Dr. Thomas introduced Eclectric oil patent medicine. It could be used internally and externally. The secret concoction included spirits of turpentine, camphor, oil of tar, red thyme and fish oil. It claimed to cure tooth ache in 2 minutes, ear aches in 5 minutes and deafness in 3 days.

In 1885 the first patent medicine was put on the market for our gullible public, who can be found in every part of the world at any point of timeline. It was Lydia Pinkham’s vegetable compound laced with alcohol which made it the subject of an efficacious drinking song, the ballad of Lydia Pinkham. Patent is actually a misnomer. To obtain an official government patent the manufacturer had to list ingredients on the bottle. Instead most patent medicine formulas were jealously guarded secrets, sometimes for good reason. It was another version of natural mineral waters considered to be beneficial to drink for one’s health. Millions of people were curious to find it out for themselves so they all tried it and many got hooked on to it for life and future generations.

In 1889 another trained pharmacist invented a sticky sweet beverage and sold it from Hood’s Drug stores in Lowell Mass. His mesmerizing slogan was “For that tired feeling take Hood’s.”  He also advertized in Globe and Mail a second slogan “Hood’s Sarsaparilla the surest way to have good blood.”

In 1890 a young enterprising George Taylor Fulford bought a patent medicine formula from a local doctor William Jackson for $50 and made it into a multi-million dollar empire. The secret formula was mostly iron oxide and Epsom salts. These ingredients addressed two most common ailments of the time, anemia and constipation, but the advertisements claimed to cure everything. “Pink pills for pale people.” Fulford sold 40 pink pills for 50 cents a box. He thrived because he was lucky be in the days of reliable postal system and mass media of numerous dailies.

In 1900 many pharmacists created interesting concoctions initially marketed as medicines, and later on became commodities of mass consumption.

In 1902 perhaps the greatest patent medicine turned soft drink success story is the tonic invented by John Pemberton. He was an ex-confederate soldier turned pharmacist who wanted to find a cure for the shattered nerves of ex-soldiers experiencing combat stress. Pemberton like many Civil War veterans had become addicted to morphine after being wounded in the battle. In Europe, a French chemist by the name of Angelo Mariani fortified Bordeaux wine with cocaine from cocoa leaves and marketed it under the name of Vin Mariani. Queen Victoria, Roman popes, and Thomas Edison were known fans of Mariani’s tonic, which of course inspired many imitators.  Pemberton supercharged Mariani’s formula by adding a strong dose of caffeine from coca pods and called his elixir Pemberton’s French Wine Coca. Although the cocaine was soon dropped from the formula, one of Pemberton’s business partners came up with a fresh and catchy brand name COCA-COLA. When this medicinal elixir failed to break through, Pemberton sold the formula to Asa Griggs Candler who switched his marketing slogan to target the young healthy urbanities, and rest is history.

In 1906 the American congress passed the pure food and drug act requiring all drug manufacturers to be truthful in their advertising and to list all addictive ingredients on their labels. Ironically, Coco-Cola ran afoul of the new US law for not having cocaine in its drink as implied. The case was dismissed and Coke was allowed to remain cocaine free.

Now for some frightening concoctions that the gullible public has been a target of; Pesqui’s Uranium Wine was marketed to the public as a guaranteed cure for diabetes. The secret formula was Bordeaux wine and uranium nitrate. Dr. Batty’s cigarettes were marketed to people suffering from asthma, bad breath, and bronchial irritation. How paradoxical is this claim and no one saw through it. Then there was the Microbe killer that consisted of tap water, red wine, and trace amounts of sulphuric acid. This too was a success with the public.

In 1914 The Loyd manufacturing company of Albany, N.Y. advertised Cocaine Toothache Drops as an “instantaneous cure” for the teething children. It was sold over the counter drug.

In 1920 Seven Up was created as a hangover cure even during the height of prohibition. Seven Up’s slogan was “Take the outch out of the grouch.” It contained lithium citrate, a known mood stabilizing drug. The trend continues unabated with Red Bulls, Gatorades, and Vitamin waters. Today the health freaks and their industry are worth $ 50 billion a year for weight loss products and services alone because they have gullible customers to satisfy and deceive.

THE PRICE OF FREEDOM -- SICKNESS

THE PRICE OF FREEDOM - SICKNESS

The world is crazy about freedom. The obsessions with freedom, in all aspects of life, have taken a heavy toll, on our lives.

Freedom to copulate with same sexes!

Freedom to live together, without getting tied down by marriage!

Freedom from the hassles of cooking elaborate family meals!

Freedom to be nude at the sea beaches and clubs!

Freedom of speech and action!

Freedom to be medically treated without discrimination and questioning!

Freedom to sue people for millions over trifles, soft injuries, defamation and controversial acts, encouraging intolerance!

Freedom to commit heinous crimes on innocent public and later on plead guilty, gladly slaughter pigs, cattle, and chicken for food consumption and base pleasure!

Freedom to pollute the planet’s precarious ozone layer by all means, with the attitude – WHO CARES, WHAT DOES IT MATTER!

Freedom to stockpile nuclear armaments, even though they will never be used and if ever used, will result in total annihilation!

Freedom means, absence of interference, and having the power and resources to fulfill one’s own potential!
Total freedom has its own demerits, which are pretty obvious here.
The transition from total slavery to absolute freedom is complete, but at what price. An extremely big price of course, which is our mental, physical health and well-being!

Since the average cohabitation lasts merely four to five years, the disastrous side effects are innumerable, the basic one being, absence of the uniting, bonding family unit. Eventually you get broken homes, confused young minds, foster parenting, single parent upbringing, manipulative baby sitters, loveless day care homes, pain of separation from last partners, loneliness, hate filled years, and stress of readjustment with the new, future partners. The tragic part is that these new partners are also going through the same negativity. So now you have two of the same kind together, under the same roof. This is what total freedom gets them.

THIS IS MY LIFE

Their young ones grow up in the above high flux environment and follow the same path of freedom, becoming sexually active at tender ages of thirteen and fourteen, smoking, drinking, and even venturing into drugs while ignoring their schooling, skills development and studies. The most common syntax coming from young ones in their households is, “This is my life, leave me alone, I know what I am doing.” Really! There is no room for any reprimanding or mid-course correction with these upcoming skewed citizens in the making. All the above, is augmented by the greed of high consumption of everything: foods, drinks, smokes, fossil fuels, cars, and computer gadgets. Four hundred billion dollars of good food, is wasted every year, in North America alone, believe it or not.

NO INCLINATION TO COOK

The culture of cooking from scratch, at home is totally absent because they were never a witness to it when growing up at home.  Therefore they have no value for food, hence good food and half-finished meals are thrown in the garbage without a second thought. Merely assembling a meal or salad from separate packages is not considered cooking. From the freezer to the microwave is all they learnt and know for survival. Throwing in uncooked ingredients into a baking dish with cheese sprinkled around also does not qualify as cooking. Cooking culture is single most important factor for good health and disease free living. Their dependence on pre- packaged food is lubricating the wheels of food industries and it must stop to reverse the damage.

FREE HEALTH CARE PLANS

The highly developed countries have national health care plans for their citizens, but paradoxically, they suffer from poor health. Simply pouring in more and more money, into the health care plans does not ensure good health at all. Good health depends upon preventive medicine, self-control, and meaningful freedom. The existing syndrome of doctor – medicine and costly treatments are merchandise and gets you nowhere, except back into the clinics and hospitals again and again till you die. The West has lower life spans compared to Japan who spend half as much on health care and end up with higher life spans. On the other hand China and India which is one third of the world put together, have no health care plans at all for their citizens, and yet they have comparable decent life spans. The east is under nourished, yet has manageable problems. The west is over nourished, still has abundant problems.

The big reason being deep cultural roots, religious beliefs and mindsets, imposing self-control on the general public and masses. Since the basic family unit is still intact in these not so developed countries, the peer pressure works very effectively when young ones go astray on the high consumption and harmful routes of losing self-control. They are rescued by low cost alternative medicine. The conventional allopathic doctor – medicine system is supplemented by various other cheaper systems: Tai–chi, Reiki, Pranic healing, grandmothers recipes,  kitchen spices and herbs, Homeopathy, Yunani medicine, Aruvedic medicine, Earology, Reflexology, Acupressure, Acupuncture, Mudra Techniques, Marma Techniques, Magnet Therapy, Yoga, Hydro Therapy, Auto urine therapy, Aroma Therapy, crystal and gemstones healing, to name a few of them. Most of them are self-administered, easy and dirt cheap, to acquire. The underlying premise is self-control and limiting harmful inputs into your body specially the toxic and dehydrating poisonous allopathic medicines with their positive compounding side effects. You treat your illnesses temporarily with strong doses of medicines which will eventually, be recalled, after a couple of years, leaving you permanently damaged with many more side effects. Death is the only solution in site for most of us.

HOLES IN YOUR BUCKETS

Total freedom in the West, allows you to continue smoking a pack of highly toxic cigarettes per day and pursue treatment of lung cancer concurrently. A diabetic patient will vehemently swear that he cannot let go his sugar loaded muffins, cookies, chocolates, and coke yet the treatment and medicines must be made available to him. It is his right. It does make quite a lot of sense in his “well frog world”. The hefty overweight bully wants to loose a couple of pounds but he will not give up his French fries, fried chicken, cheese loaded pizzas, and of course the weekly 12 cans of beer. Very soon he will require a heart bypass or a pace maker. He too must have it, because it is his right.  All these excessive calorie intake, and high consumption is very stupidly balanced by a sedentary life style of luxury cars and computer related desk jobs in their small wishful well. If 5 % of the population is conscious of their health and can be spotted running, jogging, and exercising strict control on the inputs into their bodies, it does not make the rest of the 95 % population healthy.

WRONG & FALSE PRIORITIES

We are busy working two jobs, bringing up children, both parents working or separated, trying our best to live false lifestyles; Expensive cars, big houses, and bigger debts on credit cards!  Therefore these corporations are needed, to satisfy our needs. We find them very convenient. We are overworked, therefore lazy and ignorant hence gullible too. These companies brain wash us with their mind manipulating, loud 30 second commercials into buying their products. We are targets of their HEXING, thus disempowering us totally, that we cannot do, without their harmful products.

The fast food well frogs make us believe that Burgers & French fries do not cause obesity.

The Cigarette manufacturing well frogs make us believe that smoking does not cause cancer.

The cold drink well frogs make us believes that carbonated drinks or pop do not cause diabetes.

The oil well frogs also make us believe that burning of fossil fuels do not contribute to global warming.

VICTIMS OF POOR CHOICES

We end up making wrong choices and paying a big price twice. First a couple of dollars for preprocessed high sugar and sodium, ready to eat goodies and later on hundreds of dollars, when we fall sick by consuming them in large quantities every day. It is up you to see through their game, of filling up their banks accounts, at the cost of our lives.

Now that you landed yourself in deep trouble, of poor health you expect the government to help you out, with an all paid for health care plan. You seriously believe that the doctors and their medicine are going to fix you up. Till today there has not been a single success story in the medical history. These doctors are always treating the effect, your symptoms. They have no clue about the cause. They are not trained to look for the real causes. Majority of the causes happen to be the wrong choices that you made with regards to the harmful inputs into your body. The balance of the causes is invisible stuff, which are absolutely out of the realm, of your medical doctors. – explained in subsequent chapters fully.

Reckless living, poor choices, leads most of us straight into the hands of cancer, the first stage of death. Surprisingly nature has the cancer fully contained and limited to one organ. Then we go to our learned doctors for treatment. They perform invasive surgeries to arrive at the diagnosis. These simple tests cause big time damage by proliferation of the cancer/disease. In their ignorance they have put you on a slow road to death already. They continue their onslaught of medications and chemotherapy. This therapy kills all the good cells too and destroys our immune system. Once the immune system is wrecked, death is inevitable. It is postponed for the time being only. The chances of these doctors making mistakes are pretty high additionally, and we are at their mercy. Then we have to ingest their toxic medicines which could be spurious or expired, leading to further complications, side effects, and allergies. Doctors are making their fortunes by misleading you into a possible cure. Have you ever come across a person who survived this deep penetrating destruction of chemotherapy? Impossible to find one!

On the other hand, the government’s judicial system will put you behind bars, for refusing to take such a dangerous and fatal treatment. Putting us in prison makes them feel good but it does no good to the poor patients. They are after us either as guinea pigs or for profit. Good luck with your justice system and the learned doctors. I do not blame the helpless, public for pursuing better, safer, more natural and cheaper treatments, elsewhere in the world. It is a free world, let them go ahead.

Personally, I refused to be examined and invasively tested for my prostate, when my family doctor advised me for the above. Subsequently I brought up the proliferation point and he was in a dilemma. I challenged him that I would never have cancer of the prostate because I consume pumpkin, chia seeds & lemon juice every day. I do not think of old age complications at all. An active sex life keeps my microwaves of melancholy switched off, hence no question of prostate cancer/any other disease. It is all mind over matter. The treatment of prostate cancer involves hormonal therapy which cuts off your testosterone production to starve only one kind of the dozen cancer cells. Next they try to kill the balance cancer cells by radiation. In the end some cells do escape and continue to grow within, back to square one where you started. Additionally they have compromised your natural immune system which is not capable of fighting the fresh wave of cancer cells any more. If you do get treated again then you are sure to die sooner than you would have, if left it untreated. I have been brought up in a medical environment by my doctor dad and highly educated mom, to respect the marvelous human body, take extra care about it, and above all never to misuse or abuse it. Therefore I follow the preventive medicine route and avoid falling sick, instead of the normal route of carelessness and going in for the invasive and costly treatment of Allopathic Medicine, which was, incidentally, available in house, free of charge. Active life style to include racket games, & swimming, has helped build me into a strong person. Mostly vegan diet and eating in moderation was the second factor contributing to our good health and strong immune systems. I still remember accompanying my parents on early morning walks during my childhood days.

UTOPIAN MODEL FOR NATIONAL HEALTH CARE MANAGEMENT

WHAT AIL'S THE HEALTH CARE SYSTEM ??

Diagnosing the aliment that health care is suffering from, has been tough for the people who govern and finance the system: the medical staff who toil 24/7 inside the air tight bubble, the poor ignorant guinea pigs who offer themselves for scientific treatments, and the hungry corporations who feed and poison the common man with their toxic harmful processed food products. All the above four agencies are inside the system. To arrive at the differential diagnosis, someone impartial and not connected with the system has to study in depth from outside. It is pretty easy, and a piece of cake for a trained Value engineer and creative Industrial engineer like myself, to take in the total picture of all the elements involved and process them to evolve a workable practical solution. Since this solution is so far advanced and 25 years ahead of its time that the concerned parties may find it difficult to accept and implement it right now, though eventually this is the only way out for everyone involved. We will have to think out of the box to arrive at the best possible solution to this century old problem of health care.

WAIT AND WATCH TACTIC

Let us start with the world’s top most troublesome problem as an analogy – Smuggling of drugs. How are we tackling it today? By policing it, chasing it after the act has been committed. We wait for the drug lords to buy the stuff off the farmers, wait for them to process it and do value addition to it, again wait for them to smuggle it across the borders in ever new ways. We wait for intelligence tips to arrive, and yet again wait for the actual stuff to arrive to catch it, if we can.

Thousands of police officers, border security forces, k-nine units, cars and helicopters by the hundreds are employed to do this job today. If not billions but many trillions of dollars are spent every year unsuccessfully in the effort to contain this drug problem. In vain goes all this herculean effort because our children are still doing drugs and bringing untold misery into the families involved. As a government agency, we ought to be proactive and one step ahead of the drug lords to beat them at their game. The solution is very simple. Who is buying up 90% of the world’s coffee? Starbucks and Tim Horton’s & MacDonald’s. Just like them we go out and procure 98% of the raw heroin/poppy from the farmers and do what we want to do. We could even ask the farmers to harvest the crops much before they blossomed since we intend to destroy them. Ship it to an undisclosed location and dispose it off, by burning it and generating power. Alternately process it for medicinal purpose and huge governmental profits.I would go a step further to the very root of the epidemic, by procuring the poppy seeds themselves and destroying them systematically and clandestinely. In a matter of three to five crop cycles poppy seeds can be in the extinct category. We have to think out of the box for creative solutions.

This would render most of the police force surplus to be utilized in other areas. They would still be required to track down the small time individual poppy growers. Trillions of dollars would become available for critical health care management. Now that you have abundant funds, let’s see how to spend a fraction of it to get extraordinary results.

Coming back to our key issue of health care management, we observe that the poor guinea pigs has been given absolute freedom to do as they like, even if it means going on the road to destruction, and expecting the big brother, their governments, to rescue them later with all paid for health care plans, while they continue with bad habits. The governing agency is too busy with hundreds of higher ranking international priorities, including re-election to office; hence this issue takes a back seat in their agendas. The highly talented medical staff is busy doing what they have been trained for; treating the human body after the DAMAGE has been done. Like our police force they wait and watch till the people fall sick, and the guinea pigs to be carried into the hospitals. Additionally these doctors are always treating the symptoms, the effect, in the body and not the cause of sickness, which happens to be beyond their realm and scope of work. Finally the profit hungry corporations are responsible for all the degeneration caused to the common man’s health. Who is going to hold them accountable? They have been getting away very easily till now, but time has come to put an end to all this mess.

DEFAULTING CORPORATIONS ASKED TO FIX UP THE DAMAGE

Time has come to take a peep into the CRYSTAL BALL for the most of the world.  The doctor – medicine scene has degenerated beyond repair. It has reached levels of INSANITY.

These food manufacturers continue marketing richer and bigger portions again and again, expecting different results every time.  In short they have embraced SELF DEFEATING policies and egoistic attitudes, that their corporations are more important than the nation. The picture changed radically for worse, by 2020, which is just around the corner. Like the housing market, this bubble burst with such catastrophic effects, that some harsh steps had to be taken, within the basic frame work of total freedom.

The best think tanks in the world were summoned to find innovative solutions to this devastating problem. They brain stormed and came up with these following proposals. The anti-lobbying law was enacted and passed banning any spending by these hungry corporations on lobbying of every kind, direct or indirect. Another sub law was added to the above, which made it legal, for the affected public and the governments to sue these companies for playing with health of future citizens of the nation, for staggering compensations.

EMPOWERING THE PUBLIC & PRIVATIZING  HEALTH CARE

The federal taxes for personal incomes and corporate profits were marginally reduced and the health care plans dissolved.  The message was clear. Here, take your money and manage your own health with your very own personalized health care plans.

In lieu of the reduced corporate taxes the corporations were asked to take up the responsibility of health care management and expenses. The law makers additionally argued on the following premises. If the auto manufacturers are compelled to recall millions of defective and unsafe vehicles which could possibly lead to fatalities down the road, then why not apply the same logic to the food manufacturers.

The food and liquor manufacturing companies were directed to take over the hospitals and fix up their mistakes of misleading the innocent youth on the fatally wrong path. They were required to manage clinics and hospitals, with the profits they made off the poor gullible public, who were Hexed by these very corporations with their false propaganda.

The hospital for mouth and lung diseases was allocated to the tobacco companies.

The hospital for obesity and heart diseases was offloaded on to the food corporations and liquor commissions.

The diabetic clinics were handed over to coffee cafes, tea kiosks, chocolate companies, and candy manufacturers.

The mental health institutions were forced upon meat processing and gaming corporations.

Thus the government washed off their hands from the painful and perpetual issues of health care, its cost-burden and management. This way a major catastrophe was averted very smartly and profitably. The above innovative change was a utopian step for the troubled West.

TRANSPARENT PREMISE

It worked because these companies managed their hospitals and clinics very professionally and effectively, keeping the same philosophy of COUSTOMER FIRST. They adopted a unique pattern of admitting patients into the clinics and hospitals. They adopted a two window system: PAYING window and NON-PAYING window. The paying window was reserved strictly for indolent, alcoholics, smokers, overweight, and addiction prone public. The non-paying window was reserved for active, teetotalers, nonsmokers, lean and addiction free public. The premise of this system was transparent and simple. If a person could afford rich foods, exotic liquors, expensive cigarettes and luxurious cars then he could afford to pay for his costly illness and sickness too. These companies were happy making additional profits off the rich man which helped pay for the poor nonpaying patients who truly required the expensive treatments. It did not make sense with these companies that people should consume in large quantities, stick with harmful habits, and ask for medical treatments at the same time. For example a chain smoker would demand medical treatment for his asthma/throat cancer, how insane is this premise.

It was like filling up water, in a bucket which had big holes at the bottom. Why would anyone use such a defective vessel, to fill up and truly believe that it will fill up at some point of time? It was akin to try and button up your jacket only to find out that it has a zipper for closing up.

“These coarse people of bad habits and shallow judgments do not deserve such a beautiful and anatomical a structure as the human body. They deserve merely a sack to put in food and let out again.” I fully agree with LalaHardyal who wrote this many years ago.

PREVENTIVE MEDICINE

These corporations additionally & cleverly leased out all the health clubs and fitness gymnasiums in the country. It was free for all, but mandatory for the non-paying clients to use them on a regular basis. It became more important to prevent than to cure. Hence 80% of the effort was spent on prevention and just 20% on curing the malady. This major paradigm shift brought down the total cost of health care drastically. The idea is that the doctor takes a back seat and allows the common public to take personal responsibility of their health. The Doctor was supposed to be a coach/counselor and that was the original idea to have family doctors to help in preventing the diseases rather than curing them.

Today it does makes sense with the governments handing out free health care plans, no questions asked. If they ever did question, then their governments would be voted out of power, on the basis of discrimination. This is the key word. The power of the public to black mail the governments. The future of these governments can be seen in the crystal ball.

We do not need another Nostradamus to tell us what is going to happen 20 or 30 years from now. The writing is on the wall, for every one of us to read, if we want to. This global writing too is heavily coded and to get the real meaning it must be deciphered locally.

Personally, I feel the above utopian approach and health care model, has to be tried out in an educated manageable   advanced country like Norway or Switzerland first to make a success story and then the rest of the world will line up  to borrow the concept, of course at a high cost and perpetual royalties for life. My intuition says that sooner or later the world has to come to its knees begging for such a unique solution to the most pressing and financially draining problem. How do the industrial manufacturers maintain their factories/plants & stay ahead of their competitors? Naturally by following the same very preventive maintenance concept they stay ahead. It should definitely work in the Medical field too equally well. I am suggesting a pilot project on a country level as we do in any engineering field.  I have spearheaded numerous committees at my  steel company to help evaluate the feasibility of major new projects. One noteworthy project was the setting up of new 10 million tonne steel plant on the eastern coast of India. After my findings and in-depth study it was scrapped ceremoniously. I have been the official Think Tank for all Value Engineering workshops/teams, apart from my normal routine.
